Overview: October 24, 2006We're Back! The webhosting problems have been fully resolved, and your assignment files are now available. Enjoy! Grade 10 Civics: September 10, 2006DORMANT UNTIL FEBRUARY 2007 We’re hibernating at the moment. Come back after the new year… Grade 11 History: October 24, 2006ALEXANDER THE GREAT
Students continue to work on their large-scale Alexander summative; they will examine his battles, his tactics, his impact on society, and prognosticate how they might have done things differently, if they had been in Alexander’s shoes. The Alexander summative will be DUE on NOVEMBER 3rd — there will be NO LATE DATE for this assignment. This will be the final assignment before mid-term report cards. Grade 12 History: October 24, 2006New World EXPLORERS
This week, students continue to work on an assignment that will result in a comedy presentation (or optional video) and a class handout, examining several New World Explorers, and their impact. The in-class presentations will BEGIN on OCTOBER 30th. This will be the final assignment before mid-term report cards. EXPECTATIONS AND LATE POLICYThe late policy in the courses I teach is very straightforward. Each student can have until the following morning, at 8am sharp, to hand in an assignment without being punished for being late. THERE IS NO OTHER OPPORTUNITY to hand in a late assignment. All items handed in after this time will not be marked, and the assignment will be given an INCOMPLETE grade. The only exception to this is illness, in which case, a parental note must accompany the assignment. However, this works only twice -- after this time, any illness lates will require a doctor's note proving the illness. It isn't that I don't trust my students, but....actually, I don't trust them at all. A further note regarding the "printer is out of ink/broken" excuse. To be blunt, these excuses do not wash. The student is responsible for printing out essays and assignments -- they have opportunities to print either at home or at school. If they didn't buy ink in time to print off their assignments, that's a great pity...but I will shed no tears. And that is all there is to say on the matter. Some have been curious about the codes used on the side of my rubrics. It is simply a short hand way to indicate the overall expectations being measured for this assignment, according to the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum. Below is a link to both the Grade 10 Civics expectations and the Grade 12 World History expectations.
